Jessica Cole discovered she had ovarian cancer three days after she’d started her master’s degree at the University of North Texas, writes The Dallas Morning News. She’d also just found out she was pregnant.
Cole carried her baby to term and finished her degree.
She continued in the pursuit of her degree while undergoing chemotherapy during the pregnancy. She said she opted for a type of chemotherapy that was safer for her pregnancy but less effective and more expensive. Then, after her due date, she declined treatment, insisting that she wanted the health benefits of breast feeding for her newborn son, Bennett.
