Girls Will Be Broads, And May We All Be Forever Gutsy. Amen.

"I am doing research on enterprise design which led me to this!" co-conspirator Angela Skyped me yesterday along with a link to what surely must be the most delightful book preview of this century: The Gutsy Girl.Written by Caroline Paul and illustrated by Wendy MacNaughton, The Gutsy Girl promises "148 pages filled with adventure stories, girl heroes and gutsy-making activities." Among those activities are learning how to: tell time without a watch, track animals, and stand and speak with confidence."Hot diggity," I said to myself. "This is the clearly going to be the best book ever written." A quick Internet search confirms I was right:

"Why should girls miss out on the joy of adventure? They can jump off rocks, swing on ropes, and climb trees just as well as boys can. But girls often allow fear to stand in their way."

I couldn't believe my eyes. This book is the girl's version of Gutsy Broads!Obviously I needed to Google-stalk research the author, who as it turns out appears to know a thing or two about gutsiness. Paul:

• In 1989 became one of the first female firefighters in San Fransisco
• Has flown planes, rafted big rivers and climbed mountains
• Once tried to set the Guinness World Record for crawling (she made it 8.5 miles)
• Mountain biked in the Bolivian Alps
• Built a boat out of milk cartons
• Lived through a blizzard on Mount Denali
