An Ode To Women Who Choose Plan B
"To jumping tracks,” I said thinking of the women we are now, so far from where we ever expected to be, and enjoying it so much.
While doing a routine SEO audit today, I came across this lovely piece about expatriates living in Budapest. This is an ode to women who change course, whether by desire or necessity. Women who take chances in their careers and their relationships. The author, W. Hunter Roberts, refers to them as gutsy broads, and I concur. As someone who has herself picked up and moved to new places with few familiar faces, I can attest to the virtues of doing so. In making a life for myself in New York, I discovered an inner strength and resourcefulness I otherwise might not have found. I ended up with a stronger sense of who I am and who I want to be. The young women I've mentored over the years have heard me say over and over: [inlinetweet prefix="" tweeter="" suffix=""]"Go. Explore. Be on your own in a new place. Do it now."[/inlinetweet]Roberts describes the allure of the move so well:
But if you’re ready to break free of the person you pretended to be, or even the one you knew yourself to be, in the past, and a life that has become deadening, moving can be a powerful tool. In a foreign city there is nothing to mirror back who you were back when. There is only who you are now. It beats the hell out of the alternative.
"There is only who you are now." That in itself is a powerful mantra, don't you think?
